Kasauli Snowfall Guide: Best Time to See Snow in Kasauli

Work Online in Kasauli Shivalik Hills of Himalayas

Kasauli gets snowfall almost every winter, usually between late December and mid-February. Snow doesn’t fall every day in this window, but when it does, Kasauli turns completely white within hours — pine trees, rooftops, and the Shivalik ridgeline all covered.

When Does It Snow in Kasauli?

Kasauli sits at around 6,000 feet in the Shivalik range, which is lower than Shimla or Manali. Because of this, snowfall here is lighter and less frequent, but still very real most winters. The most likely window is:

  • Late December to mid-January: First snowfall of the season, often light
  • Late January to mid-February: Heavier, more consistent snowfall
  • March onwards: Snow becomes unlikely as temperatures rise

Snowfall is never guaranteed on a specific date since it depends on western disturbances each year. Checking the weather 3-5 days ahead of your trip gives the most reliable picture.

What Does Snowfall in Kasauli Look Like?

Kasauli usually gets a thin to moderate blanket of snow rather than the deep snowfall you’d see in Manali or Kufri. It typically clears within 1-3 days, so the best experience is catching it while it’s fresh — the pine forests and mall road area look particularly striking. Best Places to Watch Snowfall in Kasauli

From our rooftop, Hangout Bar & Restaurant, guests get a clear view towards the north-west, where Barog and Dagshai hills turn white during snowfall. On the north side, Subathu hills are visible but typically don’t get snow at the same time, and beyond Subathu, the famous Dhauladhar range — around 80 km away — can be seen fully snow-clad on clear days. To the south-west, the famous Monkey Point — one of Kasauli’s highest points — can be seen covered in snow. Shimla itself isn’t visible from Hangout, as the local Garkhal hill blocks that view.

A Night We Won’t Forget: Kasauli’s Snowfall Story

One of our most memorable nights was Kasauli’s second snowfall of the 2020-21 season. It began quietly around midnight while we were hosting guests at Hangout Rooftop Bar, after an evening of live music and open mic. By 1 AM, snow was falling steadily, and by morning Kasauli was completely white.

Guests grabbed cameras straight away, and hotels across town began reaching out to regulars with the news. It’s the kind of spontaneous moment that makes a winter stay in Kasauli special.

Planning a Winter Visit to Kasauli
